MAYORS CONFERENCE - May 11, 2005

On Wednesday May 11, 2005 the San Leandro JATC hosted this years Mayors Conference. They had Mayors from 8 of the 14 Alameda County cities as well as City Managers and Public Officials.  There were also reporters from the Daily Review and San Leandro Times present.  Mr. Benton, JATC Director believed this was a successful event and effective in promoting the Union Electrical Constructiton Industry.

During the evening tours were given of the facility with JATC instructors and apprentices demonstrating the training we do.  The new marketing piece was handed out to all attendees along with a list of all Alameda County signatory contractors by city.  The Daily Review article on Cynthia Romero was included in the sovenir bags along with a CD of "Careers in the Union Electrical Construction  Industry" and information on the Classroom Performance System (CPS) used in our facility.

Hospitality was courtesy of the Alameda County Electrical LMCC.  Also on display was a scoreboard from the Electrical Contractors Trust of Alameda County showing the "Scoreboards for Schools" campaign by the Career Awareness Committee.  In attendance on behalf of NECA were Don Campbell and Mike Curran.  IBEW was represented by Victor Uno, Matt Maloon and Bridget Hall.  Victor spoke on behalf of the industry during the San Leandro Mayor's report. Mr. Benton answered questions regarding entrance into the program.

SCOREBOARDS

In an effort to show local communities the NECA and IBEW are engaged and would like to support our schools the Career Awareness committee has begun an outreach program providing scoreboards to schools in need.  This year we have donated 4 Translux/Fair-Play scoreboards to schools in Alameda County and hope to do the same next year.  The Fair-Play scoreboards are the latest wireless technology and each gym receives two boards that would allow them the ability to host two different events if needed.

The CD-ROMs will be available for distribution a the School Board Convention this December at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
